Long Acting Injections
Care Simplified is partnering with Albertsons Pharmacy to offer long-acting injectables for substance use and mental health medications. This expansion offers medication that was previously only offered in the office, to be ordered via telehealth and administered at your local pharmacy.
The process is simple:
1. Order placed by your provider.
2. Prior authorization is completed with your insurance.
3. Albertsons Pharmacy will schedule a day and time for your injection.
There are 24 locations across Montana to choose from.
Long-acting Injectables are specially designed medications, injected into the muscle or just under the skin, allowing for slow release of medication over a long period of time.
Advantages include no longer having to take a pill daily, receiving a consistent supply of medication, and fewer symptoms of the treated illness. Research shows that long-acting injections can improve long term quality of life and disease progression.
In general, side effects of long-acting injections are fewer than the same oral form; however, there is a small added risk of infection or other complications because the medication is injected.
Most long-acting injectables last for 28 days (about 4 weeks) but some can last up to 6 months.
Common long-acting injectable medications include:
- Sublocade (buprenorphine)
- Sublocade (buprenorphine)
- Brixadi (buprenorphine)
- Vivitrol (naltrexone)
- Abilify Maintena (aripiprazole)
- Abilify Aristada (aripiprazole)
- Invega Sustenna (paliperidone)
- Risperdal Consta (risperidone)
- Haldol Decanoate (haloperidol)
